An exquisite Sèvres-style hand-painted porcelain covered urn, mounted with gilt-bronze (ormolu) handles and trim, retailed by Bailey, Banks & Biddle of Philadelphia. The ovoid body is decorated on one side with a cherub amidst clouds holding pink roses, symbolizing love and innocence, and on the reverse with a mandolin resting on sheet music and floral garlands, representing harmony and the arts. The sky-blue domed lid, adorned with gold scrollwork and topped by a pinecone finial, adds an elegant Rococo flair.
The urn features finely detailed raised gilt accents, pierced collar, and ornate scrolling gilt-bronze handles. The footed base rests on a gilt-bronze plinth with a shaped edge. Bailey, Banks & Biddle (founded 1832, Philadelphia) was an esteemed American luxury retailer known for commissioning fine European decorative arts—particularly Sèvres and Meissen porcelain pieces—for wealthy American clientele in the late 19th century. This example reflects Louis XVI–inspired neoclassical taste, popular among American collectors of the Gilded Age. Why It’s Special Authentic Sèvres-style craftsmanship with hand-painted putti and musical scenes. Mounted and retailed by one of America’s premier luxury firms, Bailey, Banks & Biddle. Retains elegant ormolu mounts and finial, showing excellent preservation. A museum-quality display piece bridging French artistry and American provenance.
