Description :
A late-Qing cloisonné-style teapot of cylindrical form, crafted in mixed metal with vivid enamel work and symbolic ornamentation. The apple-green glass (or jadeite-hued) body is framed by silver-tone mounts, while the lid and shoulder are adorned with vibrant red, turquoise, and cobalt enamel featuring scrolling florals and five-clawed imperial dragons—symbols of power and auspiciousness. The lid is topped with a finely modeled monkey finial, a clever nod to promotion and nobility (猴 hóu, homophonous with 侯 “marquis”). Applied climbing dragons in high relief flank both sides of the vessel, embodying guardianship and prosperity. The spout features a lotus-form mount, and the handle is gracefully curved in silvered metal. Underside bears a four-character Guangxu mark (光绪年制), dating the piece to circa 1880–1910. Dimensions: Height (to finial): approx. 6.75 inches (17 cm)
Width (spout to handle): approx. 6 inches (15 cm)
Diameter: approx. 3 inches (7.5 cm) This teapot exemplifies the fusion of Qing imperial iconography with export-era craftsmanship. While functional in form, such pieces were often intended as decorative objects, prized for their vibrant enamel work and symbolic animal motifs. The green-glass body paired with red dragon accents is especially desirable among collectors for its auspicious color symbolism and rarity.Collector’s Insight:
