Description :
A Fenton Art Glass hobnail vase in the highly desirable plum opalescent colorway. The body features a rich amethyst-cranberry tone that gradually transitions to milky lavender toward the ruffled rim, creating a luminous gradient when viewed under light. The hobnail texture adds both tactile and visual dimension, with each raised point catching and diffusing light beautifully.
The rim is crimped in a scalloped, flame-like form typical of Fenton’s mid-century decorative vases, showcasing the artisan’s hand-finished touch. The interior glows with a soft violet translucence, contrasting elegantly with the deeper plum base. Maker: Fenton Art Glass Company
Pattern: Hobnail
Color: Plum Opalescent (Cranberry to Lavender gradient)
Material: Pressed and hand-finished opalescent glass
Era: Mid-20th century (likely 1950s–1970s) Dimensions: Height: approx. 10 in (25.4 cm) Diameter (rim): approx. 3 ¾ in (9.5 cm) Base: approx. 3 in (7.5 cm) Collecting Note:
Plum opalescent glass was among Fenton’s most admired specialty colors, produced in limited runs due to the complex reheating process needed to achieve its signature fade from cranberry to milky lavender. The hobnail pattern—introduced in the late 1930s—remains one of Fenton’s enduring classics and a favorite among collectors of American art glass.
