Description :
A fine set of framed three authentic fossil fish (Knightia eocaena) specimens, each naturally preserved in limestone matrix and handsomely displayed in matching black frames. These fossils originate from the Green River Formation of Wyoming, USA, one of the most celebrated fossil beds in the world, dating to the Eocene Period (approx. 50 million years ago).
Each specimen exhibits the distinct, elongated body form of Knightia, a small schooling fish related to modern herring. Their slender outlines, forked tails, and visible fin rays are beautifully captured in warm brown mineralization against the light tan shale matrix. The fossils are attractively cut into circular or irregular forms, creating a visually balanced and naturalistic display. Set Includes: framed fossil specimens Matrix pieces range from 2.5" to 4.5" Frames measure approximately 4.5" x 3.5" Geological Information: Species: Knightia eocaena Formation: Green River Formation Period: Eocene (≈50 million years old) Location: Wyoming, USA Significance: Knightia is the official state fossil of Wyoming Collecting Note:
Knightia eocaena fossils are among the most recognizable and collectible vertebrate fossils, prized for their scientific importance and natural beauty. These specimens represent fish that once thrived in ancient freshwater lakes of the early Cenozoic era. Their preservation is a testament to the unique sedimentary conditions of the Green River Formation.
