Description :
Early Days — Mt. Rainier is an original acrylic by Danny Mayes capturing a vivid, early‑morning view of the mountain rising above a bright blue lake and sweeping meadow. Two riders on horseback move along the foreground, adding narrative and scale to the expansive Northwest landscape. Mayes’ expressive brushwork and bold color transitions—cool alpine blues, warm meadow greens, and the soft pink glow across the mountain—create a dynamic, atmospheric scene. The composition blends movement, light, and regional familiarity, characteristic of Mayes’ storytelling approach to Pacific Northwest settings. Danny Mayes is a Pacific Northwest painter known for expressive acrylic and watercolor works depicting regional life, maritime scenes, and iconic Washington landscapes. Born in Tacoma, Washington, he developed a distinctive style defined by gestural brushwork, strong color contrasts, and a lively sense of motion. He studied at the Burnley School of Commercial Art in Seattle (later the Art Institute of Seattle), where he trained under William Cumming, a leading figure of the Northwest School. This foundation shaped his confident line work and his ability to capture atmosphere with minimal, intentional strokes. Mayes’ work has been displayed in respected Northwest venues, most notably the Kirsten Gallery in Seattle, which represented his paintings for many years. His art has appeared in numerous regional exhibitions and is held in private and corporate collections throughout Washington and Alaska, including the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners organizations.Artist Bio — Danny Mayes
