Description :

“Working in Seattle” is an original acrylic painting by John Zupan, capturing the city’s waterfront energy with crisp architectural detail and a cool Northwest palette. The skyline rises through soft morning haze while a working vessel moves across the foreground, emphasizing Seattle’s maritime identity. Zupan’s brushwork balances realism with atmosphere—clean lines, reflective water, and layered grays and blues that evoke a calm, industrious morning on the Sound. The composition highlights both the scale of the city and the quiet rhythm of daily work along the waterfront.

Artist Bio — John Zupan

John Zupan is an American maritime and landscape painter recognized for his atmospheric depictions of working harbors, ocean liners, tugboats, and Pacific Northwest cityscapes. Though largely self‑taught, Zupan refined his technique through regional art programs and private studio study, developing a style rooted in realism, strong horizon lines, and expressive skies. His work reflects a deep respect for nautical history and the labor that drives it—qualities that have made his paintings appealing to collectors of maritime art and Northwest regional scenes.

Zupan has exhibited in Pacific Northwest maritime shows, regional juried exhibitions, and local gallery rotations, with his work circulating widely through private collections and estate markets. His paintings are valued for their accuracy, mood, and sense of place, often capturing pivotal nautical moments or the quiet industry of harbor life.
