Description

This is a traditional Korean onggi pot, also known as a hangari. Onggi are earthenware vessels known for their use in fermenting and storing staple Korean foods. The porous nature of the clay allows the pot to "breathe," creating an optimal environment for fermentation. This particular pot does not include a lid.
Features:
  • Material: Earthenware with a dark brown, glossy glaze.
  • Design: Ovoid shape with two small handles on the sides, as well as decorative incised lines or sgraffito-style patterns on the body.
  • Functionality: While traditionally used for food fermentation, this piece would also make a striking decorative object, such as a planter, umbrella stand, or a unique accent for a patio or garden.
Condition:
The pot is in good vintage condition with an appealing patina and natural variations in the glaze. There are no major chips or cracks. Please refer to the images for a detailed view of its condition- no lid is included.
Dimensions:
  • Height: 14"
  • Width (at widest point): 15"
  • Mouth Opening Diameter: Approx. 10"
  • Base Diameter: Approx. 11"
