Description :
An early 20th-century German stereo camera outfit by Goltz & Breutmann, Dresden, makers of the renowned Mentorline of photographic instruments. This model was designed around 1915 for 45x107mm glass plate exposures, producing stereoscopic images that could be viewed in three-dimensional format through a stereoscope. The camera body is constructed from wood covered in black leatherette, retaining its original dual lenses, mechanical shutter system, and metal fittings with patinated surfaces consistent with age. The side plate features the manufacturer’s gold “Mentor – Goltz & Breutmann Dresden” decal and a speed reference chart (Geschwindigkeitstabelle), typical of Mentor designs from the World War I era. Included are three original double plate holders and the matching fitted carry case, lined in green velvet with divided compartments for the camera and holders. The exterior case, with its textured leather covering and locking clasp, shows appealing wear and character from age and use. Collecting Note: The Mentor stereo cameras by Goltz & Breutmann are prized by collectors of early German photographic equipment for their craftsmanship and historical significance in the evolution of 3D imaging. A fine example of pre-war optical engineering with desirable completeness and originality.
