Description :
Blue‑and‑white porcelain pierced vessel with hand‑painted cobalt floral decoration and a side handle. The form, palette, and reticulated construction are consistent with Meissen’s long‑established production of blue‑and‑white wares inspired by early 18th‑century East Asian export porcelain. Meissen’s pierced vessels required significant hand‑cutting and finishing before firing, making them technically demanding pieces within European porcelain workshops. This example does not display a visible crossed‑swords mark. Instead, it bears an 8‑shaped or infinity‑shaped impressed mark on the interior near the handle, along with printed or impressed letters used as internal factory or decorator identifiers. Meissen used a variety of impressed numerals, letters, and workman’s marks throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries to track mold forms, decorators, and kiln batches. These auxiliary marks are consistent with authentic period production practices, even when the primary crossed‑swords mark is absent or worn. Condition notes based on inspection: Hairline cracks visible along rim and body Small chips and losses at select pierced openings Minor discoloration in a few areas Structural lines remain stable; piece displays well A finely crafted pierced porcelain vessel in the Meissen tradition, with period‑appropriate auxiliary marks and hand‑painted cobalt decoration.
