Artist Bio — Danny Mayes

Danny Mayes is a Pacific Northwest painter known for expressive acrylic and watercolor works depicting Seattle neighborhoods, maritime scenes, Alaska landscapes, and regional daily life. Born in Tacoma, Washington, Mayes developed a distinctive style defined by gestural brushwork, strong color contrasts, and a dynamic sense of motion.

He studied at the Burnley School of Commercial Art in Seattle (later the Art Institute of Seattle), where he trained under noted Northwest artist William Cumming, a key figure of the Northwest School. This foundation shaped Mayes’ confident line work and his ability to capture atmosphere with minimal, intentional strokes.

Mayes’ work has been shown in respected regional venues, most notably the Kirsten Gallery in Seattle, which represented his paintings for many years. His art has appeared in numerous Pacific Northwest exhibitions and is held in private and corporate collections, including those of the Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle Mariners, and collectors throughout Washington and Alaska.
