Description :
This original watercolor by Steve Mayo depicts a quiet coastal evening scene, with a warmly lit hillside home overlooking still water and the silhouettes of tall ship masts rising in the distance. Mayo’s layered washes create a moody twilight atmosphere—deep blues, soft reflections, and subtle highlights that guide the eye across the composition. The foreground grasses and reeds add texture and depth, while the illuminated windows provide a focal point of warmth against the dramatic sky. It is a classic example of Mayo’s ability to blend maritime detail with atmospheric storytelling. Steve Mayo is an American maritime painter and illustrator known for his detailed, historically grounded depictions of ships, harbors, and Pacific Coast working‑waterfront culture. His work emphasizes accuracy, atmosphere, and the dynamic relationship between vessel, water, and sky. Mayo studied fine art and illustration through regional programs and private mentorships, developing a technique rooted in traditional watercolor practice and maritime draftsmanship. His paintings have been exhibited in Northwest galleries, maritime museums, and juried nautical art shows, and his illustrations have appeared in publications focused on naval history and coastal working life. 18 x 22 Artist Bio — Steve Mayo (American, b. 1950s)
