Description :
“Autumn Shadows” is an original watercolor by Anne Rutter, capturing a quiet rural moment framed by warm fall color. A deep red house sits against a backdrop of golden and amber foliage, its form softened by Rutter’s gentle washes and atmospheric layering. Tall grasses in the foreground and the soft play of light across the scene create a sense of calm, seasonal warmth, and small‑town nostalgia. The composition reflects Rutter’s signature ability to balance structure with mood, rendering familiar Northwest landscapes with tenderness and clarity. Anne Rutter was a beloved Pacific Northwest watercolorist known for her sensitive depictions of coastal paths, rural homes, gardens, harbors, and Northwest landscapes. Based in Edmonds, Washington, she developed a distinctive style rooted in memory, place, and gentle observation. Rutter began painting after taking a class at Edmonds Community College, and though largely self‑taught, she refined her technique through decades of studio practice. Her work was exhibited widely throughout the region and earned recognition from the Seattle Boat Show, the Edmonds Art Festival, and multiple Northwest arts organizations. Her paintings are held in both private and corporate collections across Washington. Collectors value Rutter’s work for its warmth, clarity, and the quiet emotional resonance she brought to everyday scenery—qualities that make pieces like “Autumn Shadows” especially appealing. 11" T X 14" WArtist Bio — Anne (Ann) Rutter (1933–2014)
