Description :
This original oil painting by Shirley Thayer Ewer features a vivid cluster of red gladiolus rendered with warmth, depth, and expressive brushwork. Ewer’s layered color transitions and confident strokes bring the blooms forward against a soft, neutral background, creating a striking contrast that highlights the delicacy and structure of each petal. The composition is balanced and luminous—an elegant, painterly study of garden beauty that reflects Ewer’s sensitivity to natural form and color. Shirley Thayer Ewer was an American painter known for her floral studies, landscapes, and nature‑inspired oil compositions. Working primarily in oil, she developed a style rooted in traditional realism softened by impressionistic influence, emphasizing light, atmosphere, and the emotional presence of botanical subjects. Ewer studied fine art through regional programs and continued her development in private workshops, refining a technique grounded in classical oil painting and observational practice. Her work has been exhibited in Northwest galleries, community art centers, and juried regional shows, and is held in private collections throughout Washington and Oregon. Collectors value her paintings for their clarity, warmth, and the quiet elegance she brought to familiar natural subjects. 42.5 X 30Artist Bio — Shirley Thayer Ewer (American, 20th Century)
