Description :
This lot features a black‑and‑white crow print attributed to Richard Kirsten‑Daiensai, presented in a bold graphic style typical of his mid‑century work. The composition shows a solitary crow perched on a branch, gazing into a water‑filled barrel where its reflection appears—an image that echoes Kirsten’s recurring themes of contemplation, nature, and quiet symbolism. The print is not signed. Accompanying the print is a small hand‑formed clay crow sculpture, unsigned and by an unknown artist. The piece has a rustic, folk‑art presence and pairs naturally with the print, creating a cohesive crow‑themed display.
Short Artist Bio — Richard Kirsten‑Daiensai (1920–2013)
Richard Kirsten‑Daiensai was a Seattle painter, printmaker, and sculptor whose work blended modernist forms with Zen Buddhist philosophy. After extensive travels through Asia—including time spent in Japan, where he was ordained as a Zen priest—Kirsten developed a visual language centered on serenity, symbolism, and spiritual reflection. His prints and sculptures often feature stylized figures, animals, and meditative landscapes. Active for more than six decades, he remains a beloved figure in Pacific Northwest art, known for his gentle, contemplative imagery and distinctive graphic style.
