Description :
Pair of vintage Chinese Foo Dog guardian statues crafted from solid clay. These protective figures draw from the long tradition of shishi (guardian lions), which have been used in China for centuries to symbolize protection, prosperity, and authority. By the mid‑20th century, smaller domestic versions like this pair became popular decorative pieces, echoing the forms historically placed at temple gates, family compounds, and important civic buildings. This pair shows classic stylistic cues of mid‑century export-era craftsmanship: expressive faces, stylized manes, and compact, weighty forms meant for home altars, entry tables, or bookshelf display. Surfaces show scattered vintage wear consistent with age, including rubbing, small edge wear, and natural clay irregularities. Both pieces are heavy for their size and remain structurally sound. Condition: Vintage wear throughout; structurally solid.
Dimensions : 5 in L x 2.5 in W x 8 in H
