Description :
A blue‑and‑white Meissen porcelain cup and saucer featuring hand‑painted floral decoration and lattice‑style rim elements. Both pieces bear underglaze blue crossed‑swords marks on the underside, each applied in a noticeably loose or irregular hand. The same style of mark appears on the cup, saucer, and undersides of both components. Meissen, founded in 1710, was the first European producer of true hard‑paste porcelain, establishing the standard for quality and artistry in Western ceramics. The factory adopted the crossed‑swords emblem in 1722, derived from the Elector of Saxony’s coat of arms, and it remains one of the oldest continuously used trademarks in the world. The mark has always been applied by hand in underglaze cobalt blue, resulting in natural variations in angle, thickness, and execution. These irregularities—including loose or “sloppy” strokes—are consistent with authentic hand‑painted Meissen marks across many production periods. Blue‑and‑white Meissen porcelain cup and saucer Hand‑painted floral and botanical motifs Lattice/pierced border elements Underglaze blue crossed‑swords marks on cup, saucer, and undersides Marks applied in a sloppy/irregular manner consistent with hand‑painted Meissen marks Light surface wear consistent with age and handling. No cracks or repairs observed. Glaze and painted decoration remain bright.Meissen Background
