Description :
A mid-20th century ceramic ginger jar from Jingdezhen, China, richly decorated in famille verte–style enamels over an iron-red ground. The jar features dynamic scenes of figures, attendants, and a horse rider set among lotus leaves, stylized clouds, and foliage. The palette includes green, yellow, turquoise, and aubergine overglaze enamels. A green enamel border accents both the base and the domed lid, which is topped with a pointed knop finial. The jar is mounted on a circular fitted stone base. Maker / Origin: Jingdezhen, China Mid-20th century (Republic period into later 20th century) Material: Glazed ceramic with overglaze enamels Fitted stone base Decoration Iron-red ground Painted figures and horse in famille verte palette Lotus leaves and stylized clouds Mark: Red square seal mark on underside (apocryphal, typical of mid-20th century export pieces) Drilled hole through base (previously adapted as a lamp) Dimensions: Height (with lid): 14.25 inches Diameter: 7 inchest Stone base: 6 inches wide, 1 inch tall Collecting Note:
This jar exemplifies Jingdezhen’s mid-century revival of Qing dynasty aesthetics, particularly the famille verte palette. Originally intended for decorative export, many such jars were converted into lamps for Western interiors, as evidenced by the drilled base.Vintage Chinese Ceramic Lidded Ginger Jar
