Description :
Antique Dithridge EAPG Blue Glass Salt & Pepper Shakers with Caddy – Circa 1896 – Rare Early American Pattern Glass This striking salt and pepper shaker set with its matching handled caddy was produced by Dithridge & Co., a notable glass manufacturer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, active in the late 19th century. Crafted circa 1896, this set exemplifies Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) with its bold pressed starburst motif and richly colored cobalt blue glass. Maker: Dithridge & Co. Era: Circa 1896 (Late Victorian period) Material: Pressed EAPG cobalt blue glass with original metal shaker tops Design: Star & geometric motif with a central handled caddy Dimensions: Shakers approx. 2.5–3" tall, caddy approx. 4.5–5" tall Condition: Excellent antique condition for age. Some expected wear to metal lids, glass remains vibrant with no major cracks or chips noted except one small chip on bottom/base of one shaker. Historical Note: Value: Comparable sets in clear and milk glass often range from $125–$175, while cobalt blue examples such as this are rarer and more desirable, with recent sales and listings valued at $200–$275 depending on condition.
Dithridge was known for its bold use of colored glass during the 1880s–1890s, especially cobalt blue, milk glass, and decorated pressed glass. Sets like this were considered both decorative and practical—often gifted for wedding households at the turn of the century.
