Description :
Victorian Blue Opaline Glass Barber’s / Bitter’s Bottle with Polka Dot Design – 19th Century This striking Victorian barber’s bottle, also known as a bitters bottle, is crafted from blue opaline glass and decorated with a distinctive applied polka dot pattern. The elongated neck leads to a bulbous base, giving it both elegance and presence. Originally used in 19th-century barbershops and apothecaries, these bottles held hair tonics, bitters, or colognes and have since become highly collectible examples of utilitarian glass art. Maker: Attributed to 19th-century American or Bohemian glassmakers / Fenton Possibly Material: Blue opaline glass with applied polka dot motif, metal collar Era: Mid-to-late 19th century Dimensions: Approx. 8.5"–10" tall, 3"–4" wide at base Condition: Excellent antique condition with minimal wear; retains original character Historical Note:
Barber’s bottles became fashionable in the mid-1800s, doubling as both decorative display items and functional vessels for colognes or tonics in barbershops. The polka dot design, sometimes referred to as "coin spot," was a popular decorative technique that showcased the skill of glassmakers. Today, these bottles are prized by collectors for their vibrant color, hand-blown craftsmanship, and connection to Victorian-era daily life.
