Description :
This lot includes a mid-19th century Abraham Lincoln portrait lithograph alongside a vintage “Lincoln–Kennedy Reflections” broadside poster.
The lithograph, titled Abraham Lincoln, Sixteenth President of the United States, presents a formal oval portrait bust of President Lincoln in his later years, depicted with his distinctive beard, black coat, waistcoat, and bow tie. The print bears the inscription noting his birth on February 12, 1809, and assassination on April 15, 1865. It was published by Chr. Kimmel & Forster, 254 & 256 Canal Street, New York — a known lithographic publishing house active during the mid-19th century, recognized for producing political and historical prints. The sheet shows even toning, minor handling marks, and retains a clear and crisp impression, preserved in a protective sleeve. Accompanying the portrait is a striking yellow broadside poster titled Lincoln–Kennedy Reflections: Astonishing Coincidences. Produced in the mid-20th century, likely in the 1960s after President Kennedy’s assassination, this cultural artifact captures the fascination with the many parallels between Lincoln and Kennedy’s presidencies and deaths. It presents side-by-side portraits of Lincoln and Kennedy, with printed text listing a series of oft-repeated coincidences: both presidents elected 100 years apart, both succeeded by men named Johnson, both assassinated on a Friday in the presence of their wives, and other well-known comparisons. Boldly printed in black on vivid yellow paper, the broadside has strong visual impact and represents a significant example of mid-century popular Americana. Dimensions: Lincoln lithograph sheet: approx. 11" H × 9½" W Kennedy broadside poster: approx. 22" H × 14" W
