Description :

Two hand-carved stone sculptures, characteristic of Shona stone sculpture from Zimbabwe.

Mother and Child Sculpture: This larger 6 inch piece exemplifies the popular "Mother and Child" theme in Shona art, symbolizing the strong familial bonds, love, and interconnectedness valued within Shona culture. The abstract style, smooth lines, and use of natural stone (likely serpentine or soapstone, common in Shona carvings) are hallmarks of this art form.

Animal Sculpture: The smaller Two and three-quarter inch carving depicts an animal, also a frequent subject in Shona sculpture, representing various aspects of nature and wildlife. These sculptures are created by the Shona people of Zimbabwe, who have a long tradition of stone carving, adapting ancient techniques with contemporary styles.
