Description :
Framed metal etching of HMS Fighting Ship, commemorating the
Battles of Finisterre in 1747. Two naval battles fought in 1747 during the War of the
Austrian Succession. First Battle (May 3): Admiral George Anson captured an
entire French fleet of twelve warships and six other vessels. Second Battle (October 14): Rear Admiral Edward Hawke
achieved a similar victory, capturing six French warships. HMS Monarch: The depicted ship is likely HMS Monarch, which participated
in the first Battle of Finisterre. Connoisseur steel: The etching is likely made of stainless
steel, possibly by "Connoisseur Steel", a known manufacturer of
similar items. Commemorates British naval victories during the 18th
century.
