This rug was purchased at the Avanos Sentez Hali rug workshop in the town of Avanos, Nevsehir Province, Turkey. The Cappadocia region of Anatolia (where Avanos is located) is one of the centers of Turkish rug weaving.  At this workshop visitors can see the process of rug creation: from silk cocoon harvesting & fiber dying to the knotting and finishing of the rugs. The area's knotting tradition is hundreds of years old and employs primarily female weavers who utilize a variety of traditional knotting, including the Ghiordes knot.
