Description :
An exceptional, heavy double-sided sterling silver Celtic High Cross pendant modeled after the historic 8th-century St. Martin’s Cross of Iona Abbey. The piece features the classic ringed "solar" halo, deeply recessed Celtic knotwork, early Christian relief iconography, and zoomorphic animal motifs mimicking the ancient stone carvings. It suspends from a heavy integrated bail on a silver chain. The Second: A masterfully crafted artisan statement pendant executed in the Mexican Cannetille filigree tradition. The design features layered, concentric crescent frames densely packed with hand-rolled miniature wire scrolls. The open center holds a fully articulated, free-swinging dimensional floral rosette charm, anchored at the base by an ornate coiled wire dome. Suspended from a delicate sterling link chain. Accompanied by two original, vintage handwritten family estate notes detailing the cross as a "Gaelic silver cross / Islay, Scotland" gifted as a retirement presentation, and the filigree piece as a custom studio commission reading: "Sterling silver pendant / Mexican stone (Mex. turquoise) / Made for me by Consuelo Sherwood Allen - after John's death." (Please note: The filigree pendant is entirely composed of precious metal; no turquoise stones are present) Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition. The Celtic cross retains remarkably crisp, sharp relief details with a beautiful deeply oxidized patina. The Mexican filigree pendant exhibits exceptional structural integrity with no broken, loose, or crushed openwork wires. Minor surface tarnish appropriate for age
