Description :
An Elegant Japanese Cloisonné Enamel "Peacock Feather" Vase, Converted to a Two-Light Table Lamp Late Meiji (1868–1912) or Taisho (1912–1926) Period, early 20th-century conversion An exceptional Japanese silver-wire cloisonné (gintai shippō) enamel vase of hexagonal, tapered baluster form, expertly repurposed into a dual-socket table lamp. The vase features a spectacularly vibrant, mirror-polished turquoise ground, meticulously decorated with an all-over stylized peacock feather design. Each feather eye is masterfully rendered with rich concentric rings of deep cobalt blue, brilliant amber, and shimmering gold aventurine, supported by exceedingly fine, sweeping silver-wire stems. The neck is adorned with an intricate, dark blue scales-and-scrolls diaper border mimicking the crown plumage of a peacock. Mounted upon a turned, dark-stained circular wooden base, the vase is fitted with an elegant, patinated brass double-cluster socket fixture featuring independent ball-chain pull switches with bell finials. Dimensions Overall, Height 24" Vase Height 15" Condition Report Enamel & Body: Overall very good aesthetic condition with a brilliant, high-gloss finish. Displays vibrant coloration. Surface presents typical light pitting, minute air bubbles, and superficial firing flaws inherent to early 20th-century Japanese cloisonné production. Electrical: Fitted with a vintage early 20th-century double brass socket cluster and brown cord. The peacock feather motif on a vivid turquoise field is one of the most iconic and highly sought-after designs of the golden age of Japanese cloisonné. This specific style and execution strongly reflect the masterful output of renowned Nagoya-area ateliers, most notably attributed to workshops such as Kawade Shibatarō (working for the Ando Cloisonné Company) or Hayashi Tanigorō. This lot presents an exquisite marriage of Eastern decorative mastery and Western Art Deco functional utility.
