Lot # 144 - Vintage Hand-Carved Mexican Wooden Trays - Set of 3 (Dated 1941)

dscapes, figures, and architectural elements, complete with sturdy integrated handles.

The largest tray features a signed and dated inscription etched on the reverse: "Mexico 1941" along with the artist name A. G. Gennalte, adding excellent historical and collectible value to this set. The other two trays are unsigned but feature matching stylistic details and craftsmanship, suggesting they are likely from the same artisan. These beautiful pieces showcase rich wood grains and deep patina, making them perfect as functional serving pieces or striking rustic wall decor.

Collector's Note & Artisan Context

While specific biographical records for A. G. Gennalte remain sparse in standard commercial databases, the signature and crisp "1941" dating place this work firmly within the golden era of the mid-20th-century Mexican Folk Art revival. During this period, skilled regional master carvers created high-relief architectural and pastoral scenes for both local celebration and the burgeoning international export market. Gennalte’s work is distinguished by its deep, confident relief work, sharp handling of perspective in the village scenes, and exceptional integration of functional elements like the carved handles. Finding a fully signed and dated multi-piece set from this era is an uncommon opportunity for collectors of Latin American antiquities.
