Description :

An exceptional curated collection of authentic, vintage Mexican folk art pottery from Tonalá, Jalisco. This nine-piece lot features a beautiful variety of traditional hand-painted ceramic ware, showcasing both classic earthenware forms and intricate decorative objects.

The collection includes a prominent double-handled vase (florero), traditional rounded water jugs (botellones) with accompanying nesting cups, and a selection of delicate decorative pieces, including miniature vessels and a hand-crafted animal figure. Each piece features the signature bruñido (burnished) finish, achieved by carefully polishing the clay with a pyrite stone before firing to create a soft, elegant sheen rather than a glassy glaze.

The artistry displays classic Tonalá iconography, meticulously hand-painted in a sophisticated palette of earthy terracotta, slate blues, soft creams, and forest greens. The intricate motifs include stylized flor de Tonalá (Tonalá flower) patterns, delicate foliage, and the iconic pájaro petatillo (native songbird) detailed with exceptionally fine cross-hatch brushwork.

Dimensions:

  • Large Pieces (Up to): 9"H x 8"W

  • Small Pieces (Down to): 3"H x 2.5"W

Condition Report: Items are in vintage aged condition, showing wear consistent with age and some visible chips. The collection displays beautifully preserved hand-painted details and the characteristic soft luster of burnished slip, alongside typical signs of use and the inherent irregularities of authentic, hand-coiled folk ceramics.
