Description :

Lovingly rendered urban scene (probably Portland, OR, as the piece is titled "Oregon Mist") by well-known Northwest watercolor artist John Waddingham (1915 - 2002). The work is on heavily textured watercolor paper, has a double mat, and is framed in light wood. This appears to be a piece entered into a group show/exhibition given the tag on the verso. We are unsure of the date painted, but it is definitely older as the phone number on the reverse has letters at the beginning of the number series and the price listed was $100. We are guessing this is 1960s or so. It is signed in the lower left.

Portion of the print showing inside the inner mat measures approx. 13" H x 19" W. Piece measures approx. 21" H x 29" framed. While the frame is serviceable as is, it shows wear and we think it would greatly enhance the piece to have it reframed/re-matted to play off the colors in the painting. The taped mess on the back appears to be a piece of tag paper added to the back of the frame for the show - it doesn't appear to be part of the frame/backing board & could be removed - see photo with edge lifted up.

Waddington was a watercolor painter, a printmaker, and was also the art director for The Oregonian newspaper. Originally from England, he lived in India & Canada before settling in Oregon.
