What is a Samovar?

A samovar is a metal urn, often ornately decorated, used to heat and boil water for tea. The Russian name "samovar" means "self-boiler". Traditionally, they use a central pipe fueled by charcoal or wood, with a tap at the base to dispense hot water. The hot water is used to dilute a strong tea concentrate, called zavarka, which is brewed in a smaller teapot placed on top.
