This product is a Meissen Blue Onion sugar bowl. It is a piece of German porcelain featuring the classic Blue Onion (Zwiebelmuster) pattern, which consists of hand-painted cobalt blue floral motifs. The lid is often topped with a sculpted rosebud finial.
The "onions" in the pattern are not actually onions, but rather peaches and melons on the rim, and bamboo stalks and chrysanthemum blossoms in the center.
The Meissen porcelain trademark, the Crossed Swords, can be found on the base of authentic pieces.
The pattern was inspired by East Asian designs and has been in production since 1731.
Meissen is the oldest trademark in Europe.
Dimensions : 4 in W x 5 in H
