Description :

This was found deep in our client's storage area - it's a very old baseball mitt and we were about to bypass it when the 2 pictured pieces of paper fell out. If what is on the paper is accurate, this is an antique mitt with a real history belonging to Monte Pearson* - a pitcher in the World Series in the 1930s! We are guessing it was used by his team's catcher when he recorded the shut-out in 1939 noted on the second piece of paper.

The first paper says: "Spalding left- handed catcher's mitt - webbing is shot.  Patent # 1624676 - Monte Pearson"

The second paper says: "Monte Pearson: 1909 - 1978. RHP 1939-41 - Indians, Yankees, Reds. AL Era rookie - Indians 1933. 1934 traded to the Yankees. Outstanding WS pitcher 1933-1939 Yankees. 2 hit shut-out against Reds in 1939"

This is a great piece of antique memorabila for a baseball fan!

*We checked out who Monte Pearson was, and the note appears to be accurate*. He was a baseball player in the early part of the last century - one of the first Mormons to break into the game - and played in the major leagues for 10 years.  Monte Pearson - Wikipedia
